The delegation included representatives of such enterprises as Kupol, Izhevsk Radio Plant, United Automotive Group, Votkinsk Plant, Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, Izhstal, Sarapul Power Generator Plant, and also companies in Moscow, Tatarstan, the Perm Krai. The visit to the plant is one of the items on the program of the 6th All-Russia IT Congress Rodnikovyi Krai, which focused on automation of production process flows. The Congress was arranged by the IT Directors Club nonprofit partnership under the auspices of the Russian Union of IT Directors and with the backing of the Ministry of IT and Communications of the Udmurt Republic.
The Izhevsk plant of Rimera Group drew interest from the Congress participants due to the fact that Izhneftemash is one of the leading industrial enterprises in Udmurtia in terms of expertise in implementing modern production control systems. Production planning and accounting processes at the plant are automated by the Olympus software suite. In 2013, the plant followed in the footsteps of MSA plant—the Czech asset of Rimera Group and a European leader in valve engineering—implementing a barcoding system for monitoring production operations, including process operations (welding, machining, assembly) and tracking component deliveries. Notably, the plant is an IT competence center for the entire Rimera Group: Izhevsk plant professionals are tasked with developing and implementing IT projects on the company-wide scale.
Participants of the IT Congress were given a tour of the plant's production facilities and the stages of manufacture and maintenance of Izhneftemash equipment. A key talking point was implementation of a production system called Target, which is based on the Lean Production and Just in Time principles. Plant experts expect successful implementation of this system toward the end of 2014 to boost the volume of average monthly output by 1.5 to 2 times without additional financial resources thanks to efficient utilization of internal reserves.
"It was interesting to have an inside look at a plant that differs from ours in terms of specific aspects of production. Izhevsk Radio Plant specializes in instrument engineering, while Izhneftemash has a more metal-intensive production. Accordingly, your objectives are in many ways different from ours. But there are also some overlapping goals, such as development of Lean Production. Izhevsk Radio Plant has been also working on this over the last couple of years. I have to admit that Izhneftemash is so far ahead of us in this regard", says Izhevsk Radio Plant IT Director Mikahil Baranchik, discussing his impressions of the visit to Rimera's Izhevsk plant.
"Projects to improve internal efficiency that we are currently implementing are one of the key drivers of growth for not just our plant but also for the region's entire manufacturing industry for the coming years. That's why we are always happy to share our experience in improving our production process flows with our colleagues", says Izhneftemash executive director Sergei Shunin.
