The short-radius bends production shop of Pipe Bends Plant (SOT) now has equipment for making beveled edges that have a complex configuration.

The custom-built W100B-CNC horizontal boring mill made by a Czech plant is designed for machining edges of short-radius bends of large diameters: 720 mm and 820 mm. Computerized numeric control of the mill makes it possible to produce bevels having an intricate configuration, including an undercut bevel. The mill capacity is close to 20-25 units per shift, or twice the volume that can be processed by manual grinding tools used previously.
“The new equipment has been launched as part of a comprehensive program to modernize the production of pipe bends made using a horn-shaped mandrel,” says Pipe Bends Plant Executive Director Leonid Malamud, adding: “In previous years, we launched a band saw and a multihead machine along with upgraded line of the induction heating press.”
The new machining technology will help the plant to expand the product mix of fittings for Rimera's key accounts in the petroleum industry. Rimera Group previously had its short-radius bends production facilities certified in the certification systems of Gazprom and Transneft.
