Rimera Develops Unique Piston Rod Protectors for Difficult Wells

The team of Rimera Group's R&D Center and Alnas engineers have teamed up to develop Size 5 (92 mm) GTPA5 piston rod protectors. They are designed for wells with a high reservoir temperature and also fields with high-viscosity bituminous oil where equipment is operated at temperatures of 180-200°С due to specifics of the production technology.
Factory acceptance testing of Rimera's new product for oil production in difficult wells will be completed this April. The new equipment will then go to the Ashalchinskoye Field of Tatneft for pilot testing.
Optimum operation of piston rod protectors requires a high-quality finish and increased wear resistance of the internal cavity of the protector body. This is achieved by chrome plating the surface of the piston rod protector body. The chrome finish is applied at Izhneftemash plant that has the required process facilities and extensive experience applying reinforcing coatings to hydraulic cylinders.
"Our plants, Alnas and Izhneftemash, draw on vast experience designing and manufacturing downhole equipment for various operating conditions, especially for difficult wells. After all, difficult reserves currently account for the bulk of oil resources in Russia. By combining the engineering and production expertise of our oil industry mechanical engineering plants, we strive to offer our customers the solutions that, in a way, are our own contribution to the import replacement program", says Rimera Group CEO Sergei Brezitskiy.
Chromium is a chemical element that both divisions of ChelPipe group, the tube and oil service divisions, currently use on a wide scale. Especially for the White Well project, Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant (part of ChelPipe Group) manufactures tubing with chromium content between 1% and 5% and also shells for electric centrifugal pumps assembled at Alnas plant. This material helps to achieve improved wear resistance and corrosion resistance of equipment.
Size 5 (92 mm) GTPA5 piston rod protectors will be unveiled by Rimera at the Mechanized Production conference on April 15-19 in Moscow.
